Workshop on Post-Transcriptional Regulation of Viral Gene Expression

August 21- 23, 2008
Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria, VA
Sponsored by the Cancer Research Institute,
the Myles H. Thaler Center for AIDS and Human Retrovirus Research at the University of Virginia, the Center for Retrovirus Research of the Ohio State University
and National Cancer Institute

A workshop on “Post-transcriptional Regulation of Viral Gene Expression”, will be held on August 21- 23, 2008, at the Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria, VA.
Post-transcriptional control of gene expression encompasses processes such as RNA splicing, mRNA export and translation and RNAi-mediated processes, and in many cases they are coupled. Post transcriptional control is important for many viruses; at the same time studies of viral processes have elucidated general cellular mechanisms. The goal of the workshop is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for workers on different viral systems as well as cellular systems relevant to viral processes to exchange results and ideas.

Organizers of the meeting are Drs. Kathleen Boris-Lawrie, Hung Fan, Marie-Louise Hammarskjöld and David Rekosh.

The meeting will begin on Thursday evening and conclude on Saturday evening after dinner. Registration includes lodging for the nights of August 21, 22, 23, allowing for departure on Sunday, August 24th. Registrants are invited to submit abstracts for posters and selected oral presentations. Limited funds are available to support meeting attendance, with preference for graduate students, post-doctorals, new investigators and under-represented minorities.
