Steven Lipkin

Dr. Lipkin’s long-term objectives are to perform basic and translational research on GI cancers. His goal is to discover and validate markers with greater information content than family medical history alone to define high risk groups for intensive cancer surveillance, prophylactic surgery and/or chemoprevention.

Towards this end, Dr. Lipkins uses approaches of Molecular Epidemiology (discovery of novel susceptibility alleles that underlie inherited cancer susceptibility and influence pharmacogenetic response), Mouse Models (validation of genes as germline candidates for human disease), Molecular Chemoprevention (Phase IIa trial of Tarceva in IPMNs, a precursor of pancreatic adenocarcinoma), and mechanistic studies to understand the fundamental biological foundation of the above lines of investigation.
